caviar, separation and collaboration

click here for video (quicktime 4.3mb)

has it really been 6 weeks since i last made a post? somehow i feel that i've estranged myself from the videoblogging community over the last few months, this hasn't been intentional, i guess it's just the way things go, things have been fairly turbulent in my life over the last month, is that an excuse? so onwards with motivation for the coming year... to step back in, make more films, engage in more collaborations, as a token of commitment to this idea my last video of the year is a promo for bottomunion and their 'carp caviar' project. (with some footage sourced from eric's documentary footage i found in the archive) if you don;t know the bottom you should really check out some of the beautiful work there like 'one thing' and 'whirlygig of time' anyway, here's to the new year everyone!.. be well

kaffe matthews remix

(quicktime movie 2.4 mb)
"London-based sound artist Kaffe Matthews presents a symphony for radios and bicycles!" Went to see this great new piece by Kaffe Matthews recently and thought i'd remix some of my documentation (seeing as it's remix month). More information about the piece can be found by going to the drawing room site. It's still on until the 20th November in London if you want to see it (hear it? ride it?). I'd also recommend checking out some of Kaffe's recorded work, 'CD Bea' and 'Eb + Flo' being my personal favourites.

berlin holocaust memorial

click here for movie (quicktime 2.5mb)

the new holocaust memorial in , designed by Peter Eisenman. hard to describe the feeling as you walk through the seemingly endless lines of stones, i'm not really sure that this film even gets close.

thank you to sarah anderson (sazah_anderson@[NO SPAM]hotmail.com )
for composing the music, and for not losing me in the maze.

cheating?....maybe - schlock

click here to see video (quicktime 3mb)
so for a few posts i'm going to be uploading some videos from my archive, for historical purposes you understand. earlier this year i toured with the theatre company uninvited guests on their show schlock (more info here), this is the trailer i made for the show. I performed a live soundtrack created by sampling the performers bodies and actions as the show happened.

(click pic for flash file- 2.5mb)
this is an interactive flash piece so it won't get picked up in many aggregators..this is simply a sketch, do not read too much into it, this is also probably the last post on this site, thanks to all those who've enjoyed it, we all need a change of scenery now and again,
the fragile days aren't over yet,

thanks to adrian miles and his rhizome project for getting me excited about interactive work again... text in this piece is from 'hands of the dj' by jeff noon

is life boring?

click here for movie (quicktime MPEG4 5mb)

this was like looking in the fridge and trying to make dinner from all the things you haven't quite thrown out.... i collected almost all the movies i hadn't used and tried to put them together with some kind of sense/flow.. plus a piece of music that i haven't found a home for yet.... it's also a response to the discussion in the conference on saturday about the value of filming everyday life..

fetish

so i love sound, and i love music, but for some reason since i moved into my flat i haven't had a record player, someone took pity and lent me one yesterday, i couldn't resist celebrating the moment of the plugging it in for the first time, it's so good to jump back into that world of physical mediums, where every touch and brush can leave acoustic detritus on the record,

incomplete without surface noise

a friend's smile,
it's my favourite kind of smile,
the kind that breaks out when a face can't maintain its composure for too long..
the music for it wasn;t supposed to be melancholy, it just came out that way
